Ten countries have joined the euro since its 1999 launch, from Greece in 2001 to Bulgaria on 1 January 2026.
1 + 4 + 3 + 2: Greece; Slovenia, Cyprus, Malta and Slovakia (2007 to 2009); the three Baltic states (2011 to 2015); Croatia and Bulgaria (2023 and 2026).
An EU member since 1981 that joined two years after the launch, in time for the first euro notes and coins on 1 January 2002.
Four members of the 2004 EU enlargement that adopted the euro on 1 January 2007, 2008 and 2009.
The three Baltic states, EU members since 2004, adopted the euro one at a time: 2011, 2014 and 2015.
Not part of the 2004 enlargement (EU members since 2013 and 2007); adopted the euro on 1 January 2023 and 1 January 2026.
