The CFA franc countries

Name the countries that use the CFA franc

Fourteen African countries share two CFA francs, both fixed to the euro

The CFA franc is really two currencies. Eight West African countries use one, issued by the BCEAO in Dakar; six Central African countries use the other, issued by the BEAC in Yaoundé. Each is fixed at 655.957 francs to the euro, with France guaranteeing that it can be converted, but neither is legal tender in the other union. In December 2019 the West African union announced that it would rename its franc the eco, and agreed with France to stop holding reserves in Paris. Its reserve account at the French Treasury has since closed, but by 4 October 2026 the renaming had not happened, and Central Africa had not reformed at all. Three West African members left ECOWAS in January 2025 and still use the franc.

Name them all first. Then try the harder part: name the members of each union.
