The first Monetary Policy Committee

Name the six members at the Bank of England's first MPC meeting

Six members took the first independent rate decision in June 1997

On 6 May 1997 the Chancellor announced that the Bank of England would take operational responsibility for setting interest rates to meet the government's inflation target, and that a Monetary Policy Committee inside the Bank would make the decisions. An interim committee started work at once, ahead of the Bank of England Act 1998, which later wrote the committee into statute. It met for the first time on 5 and 6 June 1997 and voted unanimously to raise the repo rate by a quarter of a point, to 6.5%. Six members took part: four officials of the Bank and two outside economists named by the Chancellor three days before the meeting. The committee was planned to have nine members, so three seats were still empty. The list is fixed.

Name them all first. Then try the harder part: the Bank's own officials, then the outsiders.
