Fourteen people have led the World Bank, and every one was a US citizen
The World Bank's executive directors choose its president, who serves a five-year term. Fourteen people have held the post since the Bank opened in 1946. Every one of them was a United States citizen when appointed, under a long-standing convention that the United States nominates the Bank's president while a European leads the International Monetary Fund. Eleven were born in the United States; the other three were born in Australia, South Korea and India and became American citizens before taking office. Two presidents each led the Bank for more than thirteen years. One died in office in 1995. The current president began a five-year term on 2 June 2023.
Name them all first. Then try the harder part: name them in five eras.
