Five US technology companies are usually meant by the label Big Tech
Big Tech is a news and policy label for the largest US technology companies, the ones that run the platforms millions of people and businesses depend on. No official body fixes its membership. The European Commission's Digital Markets Act named its first gatekeepers on 6 September 2023, and five of the six were US companies. A 2020 report by a US House of Representatives committee examined four of those five. An older stock-market acronym, FAANG, covered a different set, and a newer one, the Magnificent Seven, covers more. This list is the five US companies among the first gatekeepers.
Name them all first. Then try the harder part: sort them by the business each earns most of its money from.
