Already bought it? Open the pack.

By the end, you will be able to

  1. Answer short-answer economics questions under time pressure.Ten questions in 30 minutes across micro, macro, econometrics and data, and trade. Three timed papers, AI-marked against marking points, with a score for each paper, and an 80-question bank with model answers.
  2. Write a clear technical report in 30 minutes on a topic given a week ahead. Six briefs with research pointers, model reports and a three-criterion rubric (knowledge, application, communication), with AI marking against the rubric.
  3. Give a 10-minute presentation to non-economists and handle the questions. The AI panel hears your talk, then asks probing questions and gives written feedback on the three criteria.
  4. Work through an economic-consultancy case: market definition, merger effects, damages, regulated returns, and the identification and critique of an econometric result. Twelve cases with model reasoning, an AI case interviewer that pushes back like an economist, and written-exercise practice.
  5. Give strong strengths and motivation answers for the GES or a consultancy, with a question set and a structured self-review for each route.

Built on the published format

GOV.UK’s guide to the GES Economic Assessment Centre describes four exercises, and the pack trains each one:

ExerciseThe format
Technical reportTopic area sent a week ahead; written at the assessment centre. The pack practises it in 30 minutes.
Short-answer questionsTen questions in 30 minutes: micro and macro, possibly econometrics or trade, one possibly quantitative.
Presentation10 minutes, your report turned into a talk for non-economists.
InterviewTwo economists ask about the report and presentation, the short answers and your strongest area of economics; Assistant Economist scheme candidates also have a behaviours and strengths part.

Assessed on knowledge of economics, application of economics and communication. Source: GOV.UK, Economic Assessment Centre (EAC) guide, last updated 12 February 2025, checked 28 October 2026. Your campaign’s own candidate guidance comes first if it differs.

For consultancies there is no single format. Commonly reported stages include short case discussions on competition, regulation and damages, micro and econometrics questions, and a written exercise. The pack covers each, with fictional cases.

What’s included

AI marking gives marks and comments only: it never rewrites your answers. AI use runs within a daily and an overall allowance.

When to start

The GES Fast Stream usually opens in October and tests in December, with the assessment centre after that; the Assistant Economist scheme has opened in February in recent years; consultancies commonly recruit from September to January. Access runs for 12 months from purchase, so it covers a full recruitment cycle whenever you buy. Check each scheme’s official page for this year’s dates.

Questions

Who is it for?

University students and recent graduates, aged 18 or over, applying to the Government Economic Service (Fast Stream, Assistant Economist scheme, summer or sandwich placements), to economic consultancies, or to Big 4 economics teams.

Is this the official GES material?

No. It is independent preparation built on the format GOV.UK publishes. The questions, briefs and cases are original, and the scores are practice marks, not official ones.

What does the AI do with my answers?

It marks your answers to the pack’s own papers and report briefs and comments on them. It never rewrites them, and it is never used on essay-competition entries. Answers you send for marking are not stored: only the marks and comments are kept, so you can see your progress. AI interview transcripts are kept in your account so you can reread the feedback.

Do I need to be applying this year?

Access runs for 12 months from purchase, so you can start a cycle early and keep the pack through the assessment.
