Five countries that once belonged to OPEC are outside it today
This list counts the countries that were full members of OPEC, left it, and were still outside on 28 September 2026. There are five. A country that left and later came back counts only if it is outside now, which is why Gabon, which left in 1995 and rejoined in 2016, is not on the list. Two of the five left, rejoined and then left a second time. For four of them the final exit was a formal withdrawal. The fifth had its membership suspended in November 2016 and has not returned, and this list counts it as having left. The most recent departure, on 1 May 2026, ended 59 years of membership, the longest of any country that has left.
Name them all first. Then sort them by which left over production quotas, and which left to follow a different energy strategy.
