That ratio is not a rounding error. GDP counts only what is produced on the island — salaries, fees, rent — while the premiums are written on Florida hurricanes and European windstorms that never touch it. Bermuda's business is holding other countries' risk on its balance sheet, and its regulator reports $664 billion of claims paid to US policyholders alone between 2016 and 2024. source
